Bridging Partisan Divides
I’m very blessed to be involved with civil discourse groups that are working to bridge partisan divides.
Since 2017, I have been a volunteer with Braver Angels.
Braver Angels is a nonprofit national citizens’ movement for civic renewal that brings Americans together to bridge partisan divides and strengthen our democratic republic. Here I am with our workshop team that is helping the New Hampshire state legislature work more constructively.
Before moving to Vermont, I also co-led Common Ground Nashville for five years, which focused on dialogue around national issues such as guns and immigration, as well as local issues such as affordable housing and education. I left our monthly meetings feeling energized and seeing the humanity in my fellow citizens.
I was honored to interview Mónica Guzmán, a Senior Fellow for Public Practice at Braver Angels, host of A Braver Way, a podcast that equips people with the tools they need to bridge the political divide in their everyday lives, and author of I Never Thought Of It That Way: How to Have Fearlessly Curious Conversations in Dangerously Divided Times. Here’s the interview I did as part of the Vanderbilt Unity Project.
I also have been active in the Braver Angels Truth and Trust Project, which is focused on building trust between citizens and public health officials. Here’s a scientific abstract and a public article I wrote on my experience co-organizing and co-moderating a workshop on the COVID-19 pandemic.
